How NAPA’s Expertise in RA Helped an ASC Expand Service Lines, Increase Volume, Reduce Opiates, and Improve Satisfaction

At Frederick Surgical Center (Maryland), a multispecialty ambulatory surgery center (ASC) with seven operating rooms, NAPA implemented a Regional Anesthesia (RA) program that consistently generates outstanding clinical and operational outcomes. The early success of the RA program prompted the affiliated Frederick Hospital to move many complex procedures across multiple service lines to the outpatient environment, with excellent quality, efficiency, and satisfaction results for patients, physicians, and payors.

This case study focuses on the exceptional experience of the breast program, which developed from a trusting relationship between breast surgeons and NAPA anesthesiologists—who pivoted quickly during the pandemic to meet the surgeons’ needs—and evolved into an expanded outpatient program in which nearly all breast procedures are now performed at the Center.

Learn how the NAPA anesthesia team’s standardized RA protocols enabled a 100% increase in daily procedures, expedited surgeries for breast cancer patients (with minimal or no opiates), reduced or eliminated opioid-related perioperative complications and costs associated with inpatient length of stay, and increased patient surgeon satisfaction scores to the high 90s.
